MARSHALL — In the evening hours of August 31, 2014, Jack Terry Roe Jr. surrendered the bonds of this earth to be with his Lord Jesus Christ. Jack Terry Roe Jr. was born July 31, 1944, in Marshall, Texas, to Jack Terry Roe Sr. and Inez Ward Roe. His grandparents represented the union of two of the oldest pioneer families in East Texas, Walter V. Ward and Effie Lee Nesbitt.
His grandfather, Walter V. Ward, was the son of A.G. Ward, former president of the College of Marshall, and the grandson of the Colonel W.R.D. Ward who settled in Texas near San Augustine in 1831. Colonel Ward moved to Marshall after fighting in the Texas Revolution. Ms. Nesbitt was of direct descent of the Nesbitt family who settled near what is now Nesbitt, Texas in the early 1830s.
Jack attended Marshall Schools until his high school graduation in 1962, Panola College in Carthage, and thereafter at The University of Texas in Austin, where he received his Bachelor of Business Administration in 1967. After finishing school, Jack took on a few entrepreneurial ventures including a restaurant and textile facility. Jack began a 28 year marriage to Lois Anita Chatham of Jefferson Texas, in September 1975 and started a family in Holiday Harbor on Lake O’ The Pines.
Jack began his career in real estate with the Tecon Corporation in 1977, where he started as a salesman at Pine Harbor. After being promoted to sales manager of the Cherokee Shores subdivision on Cedar Creek Lake, Jack relocated their family to Athens, Texas, where he would spend the remainder of his years.
In the mid 1990’s, Jack moved to Tecon’s corporate offices in Dallas and was promoted to Vice-President in charge of all land development operations and later Chief Operating Officer of the company, where he continued to serve in that capacity.
As a father, he loved watching and playing sports with his children. He coached many of their teams and was not only focused on their success, but the success of everyone on the team. Jack loved to play golf and enjoyed spending time with his four children and three grandchildren. He had a deep passion for the family tree farm which received high recognition from multiple forestry experts.
Jack was a generous, kindhearted soul who cared deeply for everyone. He would give you everything and expect nothing in return. His sense of humor was like no other, he could always bring out a smile in any situation. He showed great patience, respect for others, exhibited strong family values and encouraged living life to its fullest. He was a great teacher, mentor, friend and beloved father.
Jack is survived by his four children, Misty Roe of Lindale, Blake Roe of Dallas, Matt and Luz Roe of Austin and Brett Roe of Athens; three grandchildren, Sloan and Ari Roe of Austin and Brayden Batts of Lindale; sister, Lauren Roe Best of Marshall; nephew, Brian Best of Marshall; and niece, Shelli Best of Longview.
Services for Jack will be 2 p.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014, at Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 501 Indian Springs Rd., in Marshall, with the Rev. Rusty Rustenhaven officiating. Family visitation will be 1 p.m. at the church before the service. Graveside services will be held in Nesbitt Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in Jack’s name to the Nesbitt Cemetery, P.O. Box 223, Marshall, TX, 75671 or to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org/donate.

Jack was truly a kind person. We were friends thru school. DeMolay and Church.  His parents were particularly kind to me taking me along to go skiing at Lake of the Pines. The world was better for his presence.
