Philip Lacy

Phillip W. Lacy, Houston, Texas died August 4, 1999. Mr. Lacy was born November 13, 1943 in Marshall, Texas and resided in Houston since 1968.

Mr. Lacy was a partner at Butler & Binion, L.L.P. and was a member of the State Bar of Texas, the American Bar Association, the Houston Bar Association, and the American Council of Investment Council. Mr. Lacy was a director of the Gay and Lesbian, Victory Fund, a founding director and former President of The Houston Black Tie Dinner, Inc., a former member of the Board of Directors of the AIDS Action Foundation, a member of the Names Project, a former member of the Board of Governors of the Human Rights Campaign, formerly CoChair of the HRC Federal Club, a former director of the Texas Human Rights Foundation and an active fundraiser for numerous organizations promoting equal rights for gays and lesbians and support for persons with HIV/AIDS.

Mr. Lacy, a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Texas and an Order of the Coif graduate of the University of Texas School of Law, began his legal career at Butler & Binion L.L.P. in 1968. He was active in the practice of financial and commercial transactions.

Preceded in death by Allan O’Gorman, father Alfred E. “Bud” Lacy, and mother Nadine Lacy. Mr. Lacy is survived by Ralph Grau of Houston, sister Joe Kay Monday and niece Michell Parker, of Houston, brother Jack Lacy of Houston and nephews Stephen, Matthew and Joseph Lacy of Sugar Land, Texas, and by two half-brothers, A.E. Lacy, Jr. of Gladewater, Texas and Allen Lacy of Houston, and by numerous close personal friends.

A visitation will be held at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive, Friday, August 13, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.

A memorial service will be held in sanctuary of Bering Memorial United Methodist Church, a Reconciling Congregation, 1440 Harold, at 3:00 PM Saturday, August 14. The Reverend Troy Plummer will be presiding.

Pallbearers are Tim Cagle, Jason Davis, Platt W. Davis III, Rick Flowers, Mike Good, John Michael Gonzales, Edward E “Ned” Hartline, Glen Hauenstein, Rick Kammerer, David Koogler, Joseph H. Peck, Jr., Eddie Sargent, Johnny Steele, and John H. Young.

Private interment will be at Glenwood Cemetery at a later date.

Phil and I became friends thru church and then classes.  Someone I really admired for his high standards and accomplishments.

Phil was one smart guy.  I would never have made it through Latin classes if not for him.

I always admired Phil.  He was friendly and outgoing.  I would never have made it our of Mr. Reynolds Plane Geometry class if he hadn't helped me.

Melissa Wall (Taylor)

One of my best friends ever!  We relied on each other so much in highschool by being each othe'rs dates for parties and dances.  We seemed to always be paired as husband/wife or brother/sister in school plays.  Remember how we always told you that you'd be President one day?  Wish you would have been!  In later life we visited often about life and politics.  I miss our friendship and miss you!
