James Hooton, 68, of College Station went home to be with his Lord and Savior March 25, 2013 after a short battle with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD). Born June 7, 1944 in Marshall, Texas, James graduated from Marshall High School in 1962 and attended Texas A&M University. While at Texas A&M he was a member of Squadron 2 in the Corps of Cadets. He graduated with a degree in accounting in 1966, and was named to the Phi Kappa Phi honor society. He earned an MBA from Texas A&M in 1967. James was a certified public accountant with Arthur Andersen for 34 years, and worked for United Healthcare and The Texas A&M University System.
James married his wife Marilyn, on April 16, 1967. They have two daughters. Joyce Whatley and her husband Walt, of Magnolia, Texas and Stephanie Brown and her husband Doug of Germantown, Wisconsin. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, their daughters and five grandchildren: James Kennedy, Ryan and Justin Olvera and Ali and Kiley Brown. Other survivors include his sister Frances Vaughan and her husband Mike; niece Courtney Dec, her husband Donnie, and children Madalyn and Avery; and James's great-niece Chloe Vaughan. The only male in his immediate family, James is also survived by many cousins and aunts.
He was preceded in death by his father, James David Hooton, his mother Doris Maxine Hooton and his nephew Brandon Vaughan.
A memorial service celebrating James's life will be held Central Baptist Church in Bryan, Texas on Monday, April 1, 2013 at 10:30 am. A private interment will be conducted at the Aggie Field of Honor.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) Foundation or the Central Baptist Church College Ministry.
